In practice
The opening section of a website is meant to show an object that reacts to mouse movement and gives the site character, without requiring an elaborate 3D production with a dedicated modeller. We design the scene in Spline, which is made for such design-led 3D elements, and embed it directly into the website. When the visitor moves the pointer, the object follows slightly or rotates — an effect a static image cannot produce and one that holds attention a moment longer. For mobile devices and weaker connections we provide a lighter variant, so the page still loads quickly there.
When we do not use it
Spline is the wrong choice when a 3D scene is meant to become very complex or has to be tightly coupled to custom application logic — Three.js offers more control for that. On performance-critical pages — say, where load time helps decide visibility in search engines — we tend to forgo an elaborate 3D scene, because the same holds for Spline: heavy 3D content costs load time and does not fit on every page. For purely informational areas of a website, a simple image or a short animation is often the more fitting and faster solution.
